Frequently asked questions (FAQs)
Who is Local Vacations & Experiences (LoVE) for?
Families who live on Vancouver Island,
accessing support from a social service provider,
with a household income that is below living wage,
and who have not been away from home overnight (for pleasure) in the past four years.
What is your definition of family?
We know families are diverse, and we honour that we all come from different life situations. If you’re at least two people living/identifying as family, we trust that you’re family.
Why do families have to be referred by a social services or health care professional?
Social service and health care professionals know families in need on Vancouver Island, so we connect with them to help connect families with the team at LoVE VI.
Why local vacations & experiences?
Vancouver Island is full of awe-inspiring, family-friendly places to visit and explore.
We all benefit from a break.
Travel times and travel-related stress are lowered when we vacation closer to home.
Economic contributions from and to the Vancouver Island economy are maximized when we spend directly on local vacations and experiences.
Environmental footprints are lowered when we vacation closer to home.
Return or repeat visitation, non-high season travel, and shorter-term planning are all more realistic when we vacation close to home.
Learning more about where we live through local tourism experiences expands our awareness and connection to arts, culture, cuisine, places, nature, and an abundance of other enriching opportunities. People who live in local communities deserve to be part of what visitors to our communities come to experience.
